This is my 18 year old bird Cockatiel I had it since 2001 during summer and when I first got it, it barely had its feathers grown. I give good nutrition foods including vegetables and fruits. change the water twice a day and keep it in a big cage with everything it needs.

Little Info about my Cockatiel

When I was in Middle School there was a bird store near my house and my mom and I went to look for a bird. We saw this cockatiel who has hatched a baby bird and the store owner told us, the bird has been recently hatched come back in 2 weeks and I can give it to you. So, we went back in about 2 weeks and the bird had some feathers but very little and we bought the bird. At that time my grandpa had given me a bird cage so I had the bird cage ready for it. We got home and this bird was full of joy, he loved to play and sing.

I was in Summer School when We got the bird so I would go to school at 8 and come home at 1 and as soon as I would get home, he would sing full of joy. I had a puzzle kit maybe 500 pieces of puzzle I would make the puzzle while my bird would sit on my shoulder. He is very fun to have around and makes your time fly by faster.

Some Things You Should Know

However, when it comes to keeping a bird their are some things you should know. For instance, for a trained bird you shouldn’t leave him/her alone for most of the day. My bird was always occupied because I live with a big family and their is someone always their for the bird. If you are always out and never around and your bird is going to be alone for most of the time. Then, consider buying additional birds and keeping it separate in another cage right next to your trained bird. This way your trained bird wont be bored when your gone.

Also, always give fresh bird food and change the water twice everyday because the water does get dirty fast. Give treats and fruits and veggies, and have a big cage for it. A small cage can stress your bird and give it a shorter life.

When it comes to giving new food, throw the old food outside so street birds could eat the remaining.

One Year Later After this Video

My bird passed away at age 19 one year after this video was taken, but it passed away from old age. Very sad, I had him for 19 years and was part of my life. Everyday when I would do homework he was their to chew papers apart. One time I had important paper I had to turn in and woke up and all the edges of the paper was chewed apart. This bird had made my day everyday and gave me good energy and I gave the same back. RIP my little fellow, I’ll never forget the great moments and fun times we had.
