There was a naughty boy,
A naughty boy was he,
He would not stop at home,
He could not quiet be-
He took
In his knapsack
A book
Full of vowels
And a shirt
With some towels,
A slight cap
For night cap,
A hair brush,
Comb ditto,
New stockings
For old ones
Would split O!
This knapsack
Tight at’s back
He rivetted close
And followed his nose
To the north,
To the north,
And follow’d his nose
To the north.

II.

There was a naughty boy
And a naughty boy was he,
For nothing would he do
But scribble poetry-
He took
An ink stand
In his hand
And a pen
Big as ten
In the other,
And away
In a pother
He ran
To the mountains
And fountains
And ghostes
And postes
And witches
And ditches
And wrote
In his coat
When the weather
Was cool,
Fear of gout,
And without
When the weather
Was warm-
Och the charm
When we choose
To follow one’s nose
To the north,
To the north,
To follow one’s nose
To the north!

III.

There was a naughty boy
And a naughty boy was he,
He kept little fishes
In washing tubs three
In spite
Of the might
Of the maid
Nor afraid
Of his Granny-good-
He often would
Hurly burly
Get up early
And go
By hook or crook
To the brook
And bring home
Miller’s thumb,
Tittlebat
Not over fat,
Minnows small
As the stall
Of a glove,
Not above
The size
Of a nice
Little baby’s
Little fingers-
O he made
‘Twas his trade
Of fish a pretty kettle
A kettle-
A kettle
Of fish a pretty kettle
A kettle!

IV.

There was a naughty boy,
And a naughty boy was he,
He ran away to Scotland
The people for to see-
There he found
That the ground
Was as hard,
That a yard
Was as long,
That a song
Was as merry,
That a cherry
Was as red,
That lead
Was as weighty,
That fourscore
Was as eighty,
That a door
Was as wooden
As in England-
So he stood in his shoes
And he wonder’d,
He wonder’d,
He stood in his
Shoes and he wonder’d.
– John Keats

My Thoughts:

Overall, I’m going to say this is one poem worth reading. However, I suggest you read this with some music beats as it feels like a real song. Also, picture yourself as if you are in the poetry as that is what I did.

I just love this poetry by John Keats, and I keep reading it over and over. However, as much as I keep reading, I keep wondering if it’s really meant to be a song or poem. Obviously, it is poetry, but every time I’m reading it’s as if I’m singing it in my head. That is what I think that makes this poem unique. Besides that, every time I’m reading it’s as if I’m inside the poem myself. likely, I would love to be inside this poem as it is very adventurous.

10 Pens

The part when he mentions that he takes 10 pens with him. It’s as if I’m him and I’m about to write poem to. It makes me think of me as I figured I would do the same. Moreover, I would probably take along extra papers or whatever they used during those times. However, back of my mind I was thinking that he took 10 feathers and not really pens.

Love this Poem

I feel as if this poem is great for Halloween too, the part when he mentions about ghosts and witches just makes me wonder. In the other hand, maybe there is nothing to think as those days people already knew about witches and ghosts. In fact, those times witches were a big deal compared to today’s world. After reading this, it’s now starting to think of my favorite movie when I was kid: “Hocus Pocus.”

His Going Away

Just to mention that he is going away to write poetry. It makes me wonder why his going away and why can’t he write poetry where he is at? I start questioning this type of random questions as it starts floating in my head. Also, is this something he is writing for someone specifically that he knows?

Long

Sure, the poem is long, but I think it’s okay enough which is not too long and not too short. If it were longer, it would be too long. And the lines are pretty short, most lines are just 2-3 letters long.

Creepy

Also, I was getting a bit creepy reading it as I’m thinking his in the mountains by himself. Also, as reading I noticed the rhyming has a nice flow to it. Incredible piece of art as I like to call poetry by John and his rest of poems are great too.

Naughty Boy

Ever wonder that the poems starts with him being a naughty boy. He keeps mentioning that his a naughty boy and I wonder why? Perhaps he grew up being naughty or his parents called him naughty. Not sure, but it just makes me wonder.

“That a song was as Merry”

Perhaps this last part is making me think of Christmas. Now, it’s going from Halloween to Christmas. Nice rhymes with literature. Moreover, there might be more to this poem than what we know. Because it seems like his writing a year’s worth of experience in one poem.

Kettle

When he mentions about the kettle, I started thinking of popcorn. Something tells me like in the back of my mind to start eating some yummy kettle corn. At one point, I used to sell kettle corn at the LA Zoo, and it brought me attention to those days. Also, wanted to share some rare popcorn I got for Valentine’s Day.

5/5 Stars

For some reason, I’m now waiting for Halloween. It got me in the mood for some mazes for Halloween. The poem ends with him wondering, so now I’m wondering what is he really wondering? Is something bothering him? Or what exactly is he going through? Lastly, I’m going to give this poetry 5 Stars a perfect score for a perfect poem. I loved the entire poem from start to finish. Therefore, I’m giving this poem a nice 5/5.

Super lastly, I wonder if he was drunk when he wrote this. It’s almost reminding me of Edgar Allan Poe writing poems while drinking. Imaginably, I’m now thinking of drinking too. It’s as if I could smell the bottle of whisky by the park. Of course, I got to say stay away from alcohol to everyone. In fact, never drink it as it is not good for anything. In fact, it is true that wine can be healthy, but again it depends on the circumstances. Moreover, stay away from all sorts of alcohol for better health.
